I'm not joking! I play both of these games and I know people don't like their game to be criticized, but I criticized both. Ultimately I think these are the best two games on the market right now. If they'd combine the selling points of each the result would be perfection.

Take GW's excellent graphics, simple-yet-effective interface, the very customizable class system, a great skill system forcing hard to make choices with limited skill slots, missions that are simply amazing, great PvP, and the focus on small group content. You now have a foundation on which to build a great game.

Add in WoW's depth/polish factor. High level of character control/responsiveness, a much more interesting itemization system, non instanced areas to quest in, great server quality, excellent quests, engaging dungeons, deeper level of lore, and things that just make the world feel so much more "alive".

Add these two together. The core mechanics of GW + the polish of WoW. I think we'd have a monster on our hands :P

15$ isn't very much anyhow. Whether or not you have to pay or not really doesn't figure in when discussing good gameplay features. It's nice to play for free, but when talking about gameplay, financial matters don't factor in...

Honestly, WoW has nothing on the depth or lore (full of contradictions, in case you want to look up the space alien incident) of many, maaaany other games (and yes, I'm speaking in the realm of MMO's) and the itemization is a choice between discouragement or lifelessness. Likely everything that GW could take as a good example from WoW has been done better by other MMO's- I've said it before and I'll say it again, WoW has nothing more going for it than accessibility and a Blizzard logo.

Of course, it wouldn't hurt for Arenanet to take a few practical examples from WoW, such as an auction house (just because it looks like paste doesn't mean the horse is dead) and, well, everything else that is promised in GW2, but, again, all of that has been done better.

Oh well, if that's the case then Warhammer will have a few less cancellations that month.

No $15 a month isn't much, but its $15 dollars this month, and $15 next month, and so on and so forth and then you look back two years later and, HOLY SHIT!! I just spent $360 (15 x 12 x 2 = 360) just for the "privilege" of accessing Blizzards servers. Plus $50 for the game, plus $40 for the expansion for a whopping total of $450.

BTW the reason I came up with the two years number is I believe WoW has been out for around two years. And two years ago the game was $50 not $20 like it is now and I believe the expansion is still $40.

I haven't seen any true WoW bashing yet. All I see are people in agreeance that GW2 will be what the OP described/that monthly fees and bad lore are a downside to many of the other MMOs.

Counting GW:EN, you've paid atleast $190 (excluding any character slots), for what is arguably less than half the content of WoW. I guess you really do get what you pay for.

Monthly fee ain't a downside, the money will go to game development & maintenance.

I wouldn't mind if Anet starts charging from GW2 if it's justified. Huge content updates and with these I mean new dungeons & areas to explore, 24/7 gamemasters that help if you get scammed/hacked/restore your character if you deleted it etc. & overal just more polished game. This is something that I can always dream of

Most people will be happy, looks like GW2 is basically going to be WoW Lite with no monthly fee.

When you consider how much money you save by not buying other PC games, consoles, and console games the net result is you saving money.

Before WoW I bought several console games per year, and 1-2 consoles per console generation, plus a few PC games per year. In the past two years I've bought zero consoles, zero console games, and 4 PC games (CoD 2, GW, Pirates!, and Civ4) I'd consider it as saving money :P

Guild Wars 2 should be an interesting hybrid of the two games. And I'd argue against the guild wars series having half the content of WoW.

Money is money, spend it how you wish, put more focus on the game and content and less on how you pay for it.
